Shillong Lajong suffered their second consecutive loss at the Cooperage ground by going down 1-3 against Mumbai FC on Wednesday afternoon.
Mumbai FC welcomed Basheeru Abbas and Subhas Chakraborty into the squad as Kayne Vincent and Dane Pereira filled in the void left by Noel Wilson and Evans Quao, who were suspended for the game. Shillong Lajong had Seikhahao Tuboi to partner Anil Gurung upfront with James Gbilee playing in the central midfield.
Both teams started the game cautiously and the first opportunity came only in the 12th minute when Anil Gurung had a shot from outside the box.
Dane Pereira crossed for Basheeru at the far post who laid it up for Abhishek Yadav, who was waiting at the top of the box, but an onrushing Niwan-O-Gatpoh slotted it in, in his attempted to clear the danger. Mumbai FC players were left wondering how to celebrate as the goal was gifted by the visitors.
Daniel Bedemi forced Nidhinlal to come-up with a save as his left footer free-kick was on its way in at the half hour mark. Tuboi sent in a ball into the box eight minutes later which saw Gurung and Prem Kumar miss the header. The ball came off the far post as Kryshan couldn’t place the rebound in as the Mumbai FC goalkeeper did enough to avert the danger.
Lajong started the second session with purpose as it seemed that the half-time team talk by Stanley Rosario had an instant impact on the proceedings. The very first minute saw Thanga’s throughball being flicked by Anil Gurung, which missed the far post by not much.
Gurung and Daniel combined to create confusion in the Mumbai FC defence and the ball fell for Niwan-O-Gatpoh, whose shot took a deflection of Anas E to find the back of the net.

It was a good show put on by the two teams after rather disappointing games last weekend as they looked to play the ball along the ground.
The result keeps Mumbai on fifth place but they are now level on points with Mohun Bagan. Lajong have now picked only one point in their last four league matches and could find themselves even more closer to the relegation zone at the end of the round.
