After much prolonged speculation on the teams which will participate in the Nehru Cup 2012,the AIFF have finally announced the final 5 teams which would be participating in the tournament-Maldives, Kenya, Syria and Cameroon,alongside hosts India.
The All India Football Federation (AIFF) had invited many nations which included Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Costa Rica and African countries like Nigeria, Cameroon to take part in the country’s Premier football event, which is a part of their Platinum Jubilee Celebration. Though some of the countries like Jordan and Philippines have sent their positive responses initially but the AIFF canceled their participation.
Maldives and Syria were the first two teams to confirm their participation, followed by Kenya and Cameroon.
This event will decide India’s strengths and weaknesses and this will be the first big assignment for the newly appointed Indian Coach Wim Koevermans, under whose supervision,the 37-member squad has started training, although the final team is yet to be decided.
The mega event will be held in the capital city of Delhi from 22nd August 2012.
