May 5, 2012

Mohun Bagan forward, Jose Ramirez Barreto announced on Wednesday his decision to quit Mohun Bagan at the end of the I-League season.

He said that, the time has come to bid goodbye to Mohun Bagan, which is his favourite football club.

Barreto who joined Mohun Bagan from a Brazilian club Gremio in 1999 said,”There have been moments of joy, pressure and sadness, but the club was always with me”. He thanked his club as well as his fans and supporters.

The Brazilian footballer left Mohun Bagan in 2004 to play for Malaysian club Pennang FC and Mahindra Untied. He later rejoined Mohun Bagan in 2006 and went on to score 200 goals. Barreto is the only player in the history of Indian football to achieve this feat with one club.

According to reports, Barreto is rumoured that he will be moving to second-division I-League side Bhowanipore Club, which is also run by current Bagan officials but no official statement has been released by the club.
