Bayern Munich defeated Olympique Marseille 2-0 in the Champions League quarter-final at Stade Velodrome.
Bayern took the lead through Gomez, after his shot squirmed under the body of keeper Elinton Andrade. Mario Gomez has a total of 11 goals in this season’s competition just one behind the leading scorer Lionel Messi.
Marseille’s coach Didier Deschamps selected to field third-choice goalkeeper Elinton Andrade, who made his appearance for the first time since January 2011, was beaten again by Arjen Robben with a neat one-two finish with Thomas Muller into the bottom corner in the 69’ as he doubled Bayern’s lead in the second half.
With this win, Bayern Munich has secured a place in the semi-finals of the Champions League.
