Relegated from the I-League, Chirag United Kerela played an outstanding final home game, at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, on Sunday, and hammered Mumbai FC, 5-2.
Chirag United went all out and thrashed Mumbai FC’s defence, and gave their fans a reason to celebrate after defeating Mumbai in their home ground.
In the first session, the visitors had taken the lead, in 8th minute, as Manuel Dsouza’s long range shot hit the crossbar and ricochet into the back of the net.
The hosts, however, levelled the score in the 13′ as Faizal Rehman’s failed to clear David Sunday’s cross which ended at the back of his own net. C Vineeth doubled the lead in the 34’ for the home team with a clinical finish to the left of Mumbai custodian Nidhinlal AC.
In the second session, David Sunday netted twice, in the 54’ and 68’ respectively.
Mumbai FC’s Faizal Rehman made amends for his own goal in the first half, making no mistakes in scoring past the keeper in the 74’.
Vineeth added his second of the game(90+2)and the 5th for the home team ,who ended their I-League campaign with 20 points from 26 games. Mumbai FC who will feature in the next season of the I-League, remain at the 11th position, with 24 points from 26 outings.
