Churchill Brothers defeated Chirag United Kerala 4-0 in the 23rd round,in the ongoing I-League match at the Nehru Stadium, Fatorda, Goa , on Wednesday.
In the first half, Chirag dominated the proceedings but missed on three chances. David Sunday also had a golden opportunity in the 5th minute to take the lead but failed to convert. The score remained 0-0, in the first session with no signs of goal from the I-League clubs.
The host were dominant in the second session and looked more dangerous with Ndubuisi Opara scoring a hat trick, taking the score to 3-0.
In the 52nd minute Opara converted a penalty that he himself won after being tripped by defender Isaac Boakye.
In the 62nd minute, he netted his second, tapping in from close range after a brilliant effort by Henri Antchouet, with a defence splittling pass by Beto.
In the 70th minute, Opara successfully completed his hat-trick after he took a shot at goal which deflected off a defender and found the back of the net.
Churchill Brothers were unstoppable as Steven Dias, scored the fourth goal in the 82’ with a long range effort which sailed into the top corner.
With this win, Churchill Brothers are now in the second place in the I-League standings with 41 points and Chirag United are trapped on 17 points with one spot away from being relegated.
