In what was a dream Super Sunday match, Dempo came back from behind to ekked out a 2-2 draw against Mohun Bagan, in the I League giants’ clash at the Yuba Bharati Krirangan stadium, in Kolkata.
In front of a packed home crowd, Bangan conceded their first goal through a penalty, taken by Ranti Matrins, in the 4th minute. The home side did have a penalty of their of own, in the 23th minute, after Syed Rahim Nabi handled the ball inside the box, but Nigerian forward Odafa Okolie botched the opportunity when his shot hit the upright, much to the disappointment of the home crowd.
Odafa did redeem himself with two brilliant goals, in the 26th and 33rd minute of the first half. Sunil Chettri was the provider of the first, and the second was a fine effort from Odafa, who dodged past Mahesh Gawli and powered the ball past a hapless Subhasis Rohchowdhury.
The home team though could not hang on to their 1 goal cushion for too long, and Dempo completed their comeback with a Koko Sakibo strike, in the 77th minute after a flicked pass from Martins. The draw now leaves Mohun Bagan languishing at 5th place, with 39 points from 22 games, while their arch rivals Kingfisher East Bengal are just 6 points behind leaders Dempo from as many matches.
