Dempo Sports Club move closer to the I-League title with a 4-2 victory against Churchill Brothers at the Nehru Stadium, Fatorda, on Wednesday.
Dempo had taken an early lead against their city rivals with Clifford Miranda netting in the 37’ but their joy was short lived as Roberto Martins Da Silva levelled the score in the 43’just before half time.
After the interval, Roberto doubled the lead, in the 46’.But Dempo’s forward line came alive in the 50’ with Ranti Martins levelling the score at two all. Dempo continued to attack the defence wall of Churchill Brothers with Koko Sakibo’s stunning strike in the 63’ and regained the lead. Rowilson Rodrigues netted the fourth for Dempo, and demolished Churchill Brother’s hopes to make any sort of comeback ,which could have taken them to the second spot of the league’s standings.
Dempo are currently at the number one position in the I-League standings with 50 points from 23 matches, seven points ahead of Pune FC while Churchill Brothers SC are on 5th place with 41 points from 23 outings.
