The tournament which is in memory of the Legendary Footballer will kick start from the 18th of March and will conclude on the 27th of March 2013.
The main objective of the tournament is to promote the healthy spirit of competition amongst the youths and players of the eight North East States.
Dr. T. Ao Football Tournament takes place in the eight N.E States annually. The 1st ,2nd and 3rd tournaments were held at Nagaland, Manipur and Sikkim respectively.
The winners of the Cup for the 3 tournaments were Manipur for the 1st and 2nd tournament and Mizoram for the 3rd tournament.
The tournament is constituted by the Development of the Northeastern Region (DoNER) and North Eastern Council (NEC).
In a press conference that was held at the Meghalaya Football Federation office today, the General Secretary of MFA Larsing M Sawyan said, “The opening ceremony of the tournament will take place on the 18th of March at the JN Stadium Shillong at 4PM. The tournament will be inaugurated by our honourable Chief Minister Dr.Mukul Sangma.”
“The opening match will be at 1PM which is between Nagaland and Assam and the second match will be between Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh at 5PM, which will be played under the floodlights for the first time at the JN Stadium Shillong”, he added.
Member of the organinsing committee Mr. B.Diengdoh said, “Two matches will be played per day at 1PM and 5PM and the tickets are priced at Rs.20 (Open Gallery) and Rs.30 (Covered Gallery).”
He also mentioned that VIP tickets will not be sold to the public as the seats will be reserved for the team members of all the participating states as well as for the invitees.
