Kolkata giants Kingfisher East Bengal have been crowned as the new champions after winning the 116th edition of the IFA Shield with a 4-2 penalty shootout on Friday.
East Bengal clinched a record 28th IFA Shield title against Prayag United Sports Club in the penalty shootout.
East Bengal dominated the proceedings right from the start. But both sides played out a goalless 120 minutes at the Yuba Bharati Krirangan on Friday.
East Bengal’s Tolgay Ozbey, Khanthang Paite, Robin Singh and Subodh Kumar scored all the four penalties for their team.
Jayanta Sen and Yakubu Yusif scored for Prayag United but East Bengal’s goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh emerged as a hero when he blocked James Singh’s penalty and deflected bello Rasaq’s shot onto the woodwork, resulting only with 2 goals from the United side.
The Sailen Manna Trophy went to Prayag United’s defender Anupam Sarkar.
The Man of the Match was given to the hero of the shootout, East Bengal’s goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh.
S. A. Rahim Trophy was awarded to Sanjay Sen.
