CHURCHILL BROTHERS: Churchill Brothers SC have been the cup specialists this season having won both the IFA Shield and Durand Cup in September 2009. And the Federation Cup is something which they now have on their agenda, as no Goan side has ever lifted the Cup. Upfront they once more depend on the scoring skills of their captain Odafe Onyeka Okolie with winger Khanthang Paite chipping in. The defence led by India international Gouramangi Singh along with Naoba Singh, Rowilson Rodrigues and Robert Lalthalma. International keeper Arindam Bhattacharya has been out due to a shoulder injury and he will missing again tonight.
SHILLONG LAJONG FC: The club has come a long way to being a force to reckon with on the national stage. The IFA Shield and Durand Cup were part of the clubs learning process early on in the season, while their I-League start has been mixed bag but the Federation Cup so far has shown the team has come of age, able to sustain pressure whenever needed.
And now Lajong have the task of beating one of the best teams in the country. Lajong’s defence hasn’t been the best having conceded four goals, but the strikers have been better as Anil and Tuboi have been combining well upfront.
The defence will have to be a bit tighter to prevent Odafe from getting his way, while a check on the others would also be necessary.
And whoever wins the semifinal later today will play their first Federation Cup final on Sunday, January 3 and will be creating history.
