Shillong Lajong FC, who is currently in the second position of Group A table will take on third placed, Pailan Arrows, in the final Group A match tomorrow, in the Federation Cup Football Tournament 2012.
Shillong Lajong FC head coach, Desmond Bulpin said that, “Unfortunately, we still have many injuries. The pitch is not in a good condition at all but I believe in my boys, they will fight till the end.
Bulpin also said that it is a must-win game for the team in order to progress to the Semi-finals, depending on the outcome of the other game between Mumbai FC and Dempo SC.
As it stands, Dempo SC is at the top of group A table and will qualify for the semis with an outright win over the Mumbai team. However, if Mumbai FC, hold Dempo SC and Lajong wins against Pailan Arrows, then, it will be the “Reds”, who will qualify for the semi-finals from group A.
The boys performed extremely well against Mumbai and Dempo. This tournament has really helped them a lot to improve in many areas and hopefully they continue to show their strength and display a stunning performance against Pailan Arrows.
We will do the best we can and hopefully the fans will continue to support and stand behind us, win or lose, he added.”
In a post match press conference, that was held yesterday, Assistant Coach of Dempo, Mauricio Afonso and Shillong Lajong FC coach Desmond Bulpin said they had requested the Match Commissioner to put off the match at JRD Tata Sports complex in view of the soggy condition caused by heavy rains.
The ground has turned worst and unplayable but our request was not heard, leaving us with no option but to play, they said.
Pailan Arrows coach Arthur Papas and Mumbai FC coach Khalid Jamil also echoed a similar view following the match played at Keenan stadium.
