Pailan Arrows registered their first win in the final group A match of the Federation Cup Football Tournament, after they defeated Shillong Lajong FC, 2-1, at the Keenan Stadium, Jamshedpur on Sunday.
In the first half, Pailan Arrows took the lead when Holicharan Narzary found the back of the net in the 17th minute. But the lead was short lived when Ebi Sukore equalized for Shillong Lajong in the 20th minute.
In the second half, both teams pressed hard to take the lead as they were leveled at 1-1, and it was Prabir Das who scored the winning goal in the 69th minute. With this win, Pailan Arrows finished second in the group A table with 5 points, while, Shillong Lajong FC, finished third with 3 points.
SLFC Assistant Coach, Thangboi Singto said that, “Desmond Bulpin, head coach of Lajong was very ill and could not come for the match today.
He also said that, the boys gave a very good performance and fought hard till the end.
The pitch was not good at all and it was very difficult for the boys to play football, he added.”
In another group A match, Dempo SC defeated Mumbai FC, 4-0, today at the JRD Tata Sports Complex,Jamshedpur. Clifford Miranda (23′) and Koko Sakibo (43′,79’ and 90’) scored the goals for Dempo SC.
With this win, Dempo SC finished first in their cluster with 7 points and has qualified for the semi-finals.
