The I-League campaign for Shillong Lajong FC started on a good note, with a 2-0 win over Mohun Bagan and in the second home game, the “Reds”, came back from behind to snatch a point from Salgaocar, and held the Goan side to a 1-1 draw.
Sporting Clube played East Bengal in the first round which ended in a goalless draw and lost to Dempo,5-0,in their second match.
Sporting Clube De Goa, finished 8th in the last season and defeated Lajong both the times they played. But the club was not able to get a good start this season and head coach of Sporting Clube De Goa, Ikendra Singh said that his players still have injury problems and Kalu Ogba will be the only foreigner who will be playing against Lajong tomorrow.
In a pre-match press conference that was held today, Ikendra also said that, his team is a young side and he has confidence in the young players. This season Sporting is a fresh team, he added.
When asked about Shillong Lajong FC, he said that the team is no doubt a very good side and they always have a big crowd support. The football fans in Shillong are very educated about the sport and they really stand behind the team which can help a lot in boosting the team’s confidence and add an extra high to the team’s performance as well, he concluded.
The head coach of Shillong Lajong FC, Desmond Bulpin said that, he is thinking of bringing in young players to play tomorrow and believes that the future of Indian football are the young and talented boys. “ I want to give the young players a chance to play with their seniors”, he added.
He also said that, in the last season Lajong lost to Sporting Clube in both the games and it will not be an easy game tomorrow. “But we had a good start this season and we are looking forward for a win tomorrow”, he said.
