Former Dutch international Wim Koevermans is all set to be appointed as the new Coach of the Indian National Football Team.He will replace Savio Medeira,whose short-term contract will expire this month. Medeira was appointed as successor to Armando Colaco , who replaced Bob Houghton, the English coach who was sacked by the All India Football Federation.
The 51 year old Koevermans is currently the High Performance Director of the Football Association of Ireland and also the Coach of the Irish Under-21 team. He was also the Dutch Youth team Coach between 2002 and 2008,and was part of the development process of current icons like Wesley Sneider and Robin van Persie.
As a player ,he was part of the Dutch team which won the 1988 Euro Championships.He retired from professional football in 1990 and took on his first coaching assignment immediately with FC Groningen.
Koevermans will be handed an initial 2 year contract and his first assignment is likely to be the Nehru Cup which will be held later this year in India.
