Netherlands defeated the Indian Women’s football team 2-0 at Chhatrapati Shahu Stadium on Thursday.
Around 20 thousand people came out to cheer and support the Indian team and Aditi Chauhan, goalkeeper of the Indian Team said, “I can’t control my emotions. This is amazing. I have never felt so proud playing football. I bow down to the crowd’s unparallel support”.
Netherlands took the lead when Broeke found the back of the net a beautiful cross from Joleon Van Der Jeest.
The host had their chances but were unfortunate as they could have levelled the score in the 25th minute when Swati Rawat missed an easy chance from Ashalata Devi’s free kick which the Dutch goalkeeper failed to collect.
The visitors took the lead again when Sylvana Tieleman netted in the second half of the match.
“We played well, I would say 75% of what we are capable of. In football you have to score goals to win. We missed couple of sitters today, but overall I’m happy that we played so well against the mighty Dutch. I am sure the girls will learn a lot from their little mistakes up front and give their best in the next game in Navi Mumbai,” Coach Barua said after the match.
