Chelsea and Liverpool have both booked their places in the semi-finals in the FA Cup.
Chelsea romped to a 5-2 win over Leicester.Chelsea will now play against the winner of the Tottenham-Bolton quarterfinal, which was called off on Saturday after Fabrice Muamba suffered a cardiac arrest on the field.
The Bolton midfielder remained in a critical condition on Sunday,which left the entire Footballing community on tenterhooks.
After Gary Cahill opened the scoring for Chelsea, the defender raised his jersey to reveal a “Pray 4 Muamba” T-shirt in tribute to his former Bolton teammate.
“It was a very difficult day for him and the whole football community, all our thoughts are with Fabrice,” Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo said.
Liverpool, which won the League Cup last month, beat Stoke 2-1 to secure a possible semifinal derby if Everton can overcome Sunderland.
In the Barclay’s Premier League, Manchester United thrashed 10-man Wolverhampton Wanderers 5-0 to steer four points clear of Manchester City, which has a game in hand.
“The important thing was for us to do our job. There are nine games left and we have to keep whittling them down,” United manager Alex Ferguson said. “Eventually the games run out and hopefully we will achieve what we want.”
The Premier League is all the defending champions have left to win this season, while Chelsea – languishing in fifth place – is in the Champions League quarterfinals and are now in a domestic semifinal.
Fabrice Muamba’s condition still critical but improving:
Fabrice Muamba,the Bolton midfielder who collapsed in Saturday’s FA cup game against Tottenham Hotspurs,is still under intensive care at the Heart Attack Centre at The London Chest Hospital.Muamba is showing signs of improvement and can now breathe without assistance.However,his long-term prognosis will remain unclear for some time.He is still critically ill and will continue to be closely monitored and treated by staff,according to an official statement by the Club.
Manchester United to extend Dmitri Berbatov’s Contract:
Manchester has revealed that they could extend Berbatov’s contarct within the next 48 hours,and could possibly offer him to rival Tottenham Hotspur on loan,in exchange for their top target,Luka Modric.The Bulgarian striker was the Premier League’s top scorer last season,and the upcoming transfer window could see him making areturn to his former club,who on their part are demanding a £40m fee in return for Modric.
