Liverpool gained revenge for Saturday’s FA Cup final defeat by beating Chelsea 4-1 at Anfield, and eliminated the Blues’ hopes of a top four finish in the Premier League.
The Reds dominated the proceedings right from the start and were leading 3-0 after 30 minutes and the first goal in the 19’ was an own goal by Michael Essien.
Jordan Henderson netted in the 25’ and after four minutes, Daniel Agger headed the ball home from a corner. Liverpool was leading 3-0 during half time.
In the second half, Ramires found the back of the net for Chelsea in the 50’.
Midfielder Jonjo Shelvey made it 4-1 in the 61’ and the win lifted Liverpool ahead of Fulham into eighth place on goal difference with one match remaining.
Sixth-place Chelsea remains on 61 points, and the Blues, will have to win their match against Bayern Munich in the Champions League final on May 19 if they are to secure a place in the competition next season.
