The Red Devils have stepped up their chase to sign keeper Asmir Begovic from Stoke City, despite De Gea’s return to form and his performance against Real Madrid last week.
Begovic has been linked to Manchester United for some time now and it was even reported that Ferguson wanted to bring him on board during the January transfer window.
United have been monitoring the Bosnian for some-time and have planned to sell Anders Lindegaard in order to make a move for Begovic.
De Gea could also be on his way out with Barcelona shortlisting the young keeper as a possible replacement for Victor Valdes.
However, De Gea is only expected to leave if United only receive a bid in the region of the £21m they paid for him back in 2011.
Lindegaard has made only one appearance in the FA Cup since conceding three goals at Reading on December 1.
