Marouane Fellaini scored the winner as Everton beat Manchester United 1-0 in the Premier League on Monday.
In the 57th minute Fellaini headed in a corner kick from Darron Gibson to hand United their first opening day defeat in the League in eight years.
Everton dominated the game and Fellaini and Leon Osman hit the woodwork as United struggled to create chances for Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck.
Robin Van Persie was signed from Arsenal for £24 million and was given his debut by Sir Alex Ferguson when he came on as a substitute in the 68th minute.
The Dutchman, however, was unable to make an immediate impact for his new club and Everton held on for a deserved win in their opening game of the season.
