After a morale boosting performance against the I-League defending champions Mohun Bagan on Wednesday, Lajong are all set to face off newbies of the Hero I-League 2015-16 Season DSK Shivajians on Sunday at the Balewadi Stadium Pune at 7:05pm. The match will telecast live on Ten Action.
Thangboi Singto’s squad departed from home after winning 1-0 against Sporting Clube De Goa on 31st January in Shillong and the team, has since then played three away matches and are going into their fourth on Sunday.
Lajong have collected two points out of the three away matches played this month against Aizawl FC (0-0 draw) and Mohun Bagan (1-1 Draw). They are currently in the 6th position with 9 points. Uilliams, Fabio and Sana Singh have provided the goals for the Reds.
Thangboi Singto explored his options and made a few changes to his starting 11 in the previous game. Sana Singh came back into the game after a one match suspension and was charged up with a lot of energy. He even scored his first I-League goal on Wednesday. The backline looked stronger with the return of Sana including Robin Gurung who missed few matches due to injury. Singto will probably continue to keep Sana and Aibor in the Centre position along with Robin and Pritam on the sides. The Japanese defender Yusuke Yamagata is doubtful to feature in the match on Sunday due to injury. Vishal Kaith will look to improve his performance and continue to safe guard the goal and prevent his opponent’s attempt on goal. Penn Orji who is in good form so far will continue to play a vital role for the Reds in Midfield. Uilliams and Fabio will likely be playing upfront and provide the team with goals.
Thangboi Singto said, “Yamagata is still injured and Fabio is also a concern but we will take the final call tomorrow.
The team needs to be consistent and maintain the same mental, physical and tactical attitude shown in the first half match against Mohun Bagan. We need to convert our chances.
We need and must aim for maximum points”, he said.
The Lajong gaffer also commented on DSK Shivajians and said “DSK has a very experienced coach. It will be a challenging match on Sunday.”
Meanwhile DSK Shivajians are at the bottom of the table and have managed to win one, drew one and lost five matches. They have only four points to their kitty.
DSK Shivajians won their first match of the I-League against Mumbai FC at home on the 7th February. Douhou Pierre saved the day by scoring the only goal of the match for DSK.
The Pune based outfit are coming into this match after losing to Salgaocar FC 2-3 at home. Foreign striker Asier Dipanda scored a brace for the Red and Whites. The team is now a much improved side and delivered a strong performance at home. Derrick Pereira’s side will look to continue the same momentum at home and fight hard to collect three points on Sunday.
Come this Sunday, both sides will face off each other for the first time in this season of the I-League. Lajong who are the visiting team will settle for nothing less than a victory and better their position in the I-League standings. The match will kick off at 7.05pm on Sunday and telecast live on Ten Action.
