Pailan Arrows got back to winnings way with a 1-0 victory over Shillong Lajong FC in the 17th round of the I-League at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on Sunday.
Midfielder Prabir Das scored the solitary goal in the 39th minute to help Pailan Arrows beat the North Eastern side.
Sushil Kumar Singh could have given Lajong an early lead in the 9th minute but was not able to convert and former Lajong keeper and captain of Pailan Arrows keeper Soram Poirei made a comfortable save to deny Lajong the lead.
The visitors had many goal scoring opportunities in the first half but were not able to find the back of the net and Pailan Arrows were leading 1-0 during half time.
Crossing over Lajong were determined to find the much needed equaliser and Japanese forward Taisuke including Boithang Haokip got a couple of chances but were not able to beat Arrows defence. It looked like Pailan Arrows were happy with the only goal of the match and were brilliant in defending their goal.
It may be mentioned that Lajong won 3-1 against the Arrows in the first leg but were not able to repeat the same performance which they displayed a comfortable one at home.
The game ended in favour of the Kolkata side and this win has given the AIFF developmental team 18 points in their kitty sitting quiet comfortably in the 8th position. While Lajong are just one place behind them with 15 points and will head back home to play two crucial home games against Air India and United Sikkim on the 28th January and 2nd February respectively.
