The Reds started the match quite brightly, with their first chance coming just few seconds from kick off with Edinho Junior lobbing the ball beyond the goal, after receiving a pass from Boithang Haokip. Just minutes later,Edinho had another one on one with Subrata Pal,but was late in pulling the trigger, allowing Deepak Mondal to make a clearance.
The host though, surged ahead in the 20th minute when Ranti Martins converted from the spot, after Lajong keeper,Lalthuammawia Ralte brought down Kanye Vincent inside the box. It was an easy picking for Martins, who shot the ball into the top corner for his side’s lead.
7 minutes later,Shylo Malswamtulunga added another to provide Prayag with a comfortable two-goal cushion, going into the half-time break, although the visitors indeed had several chances to pull a goal back but were just unlucky not to find the back of the net.
After the break, the first real chance for Lajong to score their first goal came in the 65th minute but substitute Sho Kamimura’s shot was easily saved by Prayag United custodian Subrata Paul.
Chance after chance came for Lajong, but Prayag’s defence was ably led by Deepak Mondal, who thwarted any attack launched by the Reds.
The host themselves had chances to stretch their lead, but no goals came further in the 2nd half,to leave the score at 2-0,in favour of the hosts.
