Shillong Lajong Football Club will play their last game of the I-League 2013-14 Season against Mohun Bagan on the 27th of April, Sunday at the Salt Lake Stadium Kolkata at 5:00PM. The match will be telecast live on Ten Action.
This has been the best season for the Reds with a guaranteed top 6 finish while they still look to battle it all out in their last match for a possible top 4 finish, should Sporting Clube De Goa lose to newly crowned I-League Champions Bengaluru FC.
Singto’s men head into this match after playing a stalemate in the Shillong Derby but a point was enough for debutants Rangdajied United as they will be back in the next season of the I-League. While Mohun Bagan who have not had a good campaign this year see themselves in the 11th position with 25 points. Bencherifa’s side played United Sports club in their last match and the match ended in a goalless draw.
Both sides previously met on the 6th of November last year but the encounter ended in a 1-1 draw with goals from Cornell Glen and Zakeer Mundampara.
Speaking on tomorrow’s match Shillong Lajong Chief Coach Thangboi Singto said, “Tomorrow’s match is a crucial one as a win will give us a better chance to finish at Top 4. So the team has to be highly motivated. And I believe the players know that and will give their all on Sunday.”
“The team will like to sincerely thank the Lajong Faithfuls whose undying support throughout the season has been excellent.”
The Reds are currently in the 5th position with 33 points and the Coach further commented on the standings and said, “Top 6 is guaranteed and this is the best finish for SLFC. All credit goes to the players, Staff, management and the fans. A big thank you to everyone for believing in us”, he concluded.
