Kolkata giants Mohun Bagan took home all the three points after a 6-1 victory over Shillong Lajong FC, at Salt Lake Stadium on Tuesday.
Nabi netted the first goal for Mohun Bagan in the 21’taking an early 1-0 lead and within three minutes, Sunil Chettri doubled the lead to 2-0. The Kolkata side looked comfortable with a 2 goal advantage and scored again, with a Sunil Chettri cross as Odafa’s shot sailed past Lajong keeper Soram Poirei.
Shillong Lajong were strong and did get many chances but failed to convert any of them. Mohun Bagan, however, dominated the first session with a 3-0 lead over Shillong Lajong FC.
After the lemon break, Odafa got his second goal in the 51’. Though his first attempt was blocked but got another chance and successfully slotted the ball to the left side of Lajong keeper Poirei.
Shillong Lajong finally netted its first goal, courtesy M Subhas Singh, putting the score to 4-1.
In the 60’, Subhash Singh brought down Barreto and a penalty was awarded to Bagan.
In the very next minute Bagan took the lead to 5-1 as Barreto easily converted the penalty to the left of Poirei.
In the 66′ Lajong pressed hard with Menyongar passing the ball to Subhash but his shot went wide.
Sunil Chettri produced another brilliant strike and Bagan moved ahead to a 6-1 lead over SLFC.
With this win, Mohun Bagan are in the third place in the League’s standings with 43 points.
Shillong Lajong are left with two home matches slated on the 15th of April against Prayag United and on the 4th of May against Salgaocar S.C. and are currently at number 10 in the League’s standings with 27 points.
