Dempo have finally won their record fourth league title in history after beating Shillong Lajong 1-0 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Sports Complex, Shillong on Sunday afternoon.
A first half goal from skipper Anthony Pereira turned out to be the winner as Dempo became only the third team to win away at Lajong.
Needing only a point to secure the title, Dempo started the game slowly and created very few chances in the opening stages.
They suffered a big blow in the 15th minute when Climax Lawrence went off injured and was replaced by Peter Carvalho.
Hosts Lajong created the first real chance of the match when James Giblee found himself some space in the Dempo box but he failed to hit the target.
The home side had more possession but struggled to get behind the Dempo defence with striker Tuboi unable to cause trouble with his pace.
Eight minutes before the break, Armando Colaco’s side went in front after scoring from a counter attack, which started from a Lajong corner.
igerian striker Ranti Martins played a very good pass for Indian international wingerAnthony Pereira, who slotted the ball past Gumpe Rimpe to silence the home crowd.

In the second half, Stanley Rosario’s side had even more ball possession and unlike the first period, they did create a number of goal scoring opportunities.
Daniel Bedemi wasted a golden chance in the 63rd minute when he failed to find the target after finding himself unmarked in a corner.
Dempo were playing on the break and had a few half chances, which were created by Beto , but Lajong keeper Gumpe Rime had very little to do.
In the last twenty minutes, Dempo custodian Abhijit Mondal did make a couple of important saves to deny the north eastern club.
The Goan side also made two goal line clearances to stop Lajong from scoring, much to the disappointment of the passionate home fans.
