Cameroon and Syria settled for a 2-2 draw in a thrilling encounter of the Nehru Cup at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Friday.
Cameroon opened the scoring in the 17th minute with a gem of a goal from Kingue Mpondo off a corner from Ebanga Bertin. As the curling free kick landed into the Syrian area, Mpondo bent low to send the ball in with a powerful header.
Alaa Al Shbli equalised for Syria when he headed the ball into the back of the net from Ouday Abduljaffal’s free-kick in the 40th minute.
Cameroon took the lead in the 52nd minute off a penalty kick after Syrian goalkeeper Mosab Balhous brought down an advancing striker Kologny Vigny Merime inside the box. Ebanga Bertin made no mistake from the spot.
Abduljaffal restored parity for Syria in the 79th minute, with the equalising goal,which came after Cameroon goalkeeper Ngome N Lawrence failed to clear a chipping free-kick from Mohd Zubaida, and Abduljaffal scored past the keeper,to make it 2-2.
