Pune FC ended their home campaign in style as they defeated defending champions Salgaocar SC 2-0 at the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, on Wednesday.
In the 27 minute, Mandjou Kieta scored the first penalty of the match and the penalty came after Keita’s goalbound header landed on the hand of defender Nicolav Colaco.
The Goan outfit pressed hard for an equaliser but failed to break the defence of their opponents. The performer of the day was Pune FC’s keeper Shahinlal Meloy as he saved several attempts made by the visitors including a very important penalty kick in the 65th minute.
With just four minutes left for the final whistle, Subhash Singh netted another goal with a long pass coming from Douhou Pierre, which was well collected by Singh, who, after a short sprint, found the back of the net.
This win has lifted Pune FC (46 points) into second place after completing their 25th round with 46 points. Pune FC will take on Mohun Bagan on May 6.
