Real Madrid won its 32nd Spanish league title and first in four years, after defeating Athletic Bilbao 3-0 on Wednesday night.
Madrid’s players celebrated their win on the field after the referee blew the final whistle. Madrid has 94 points and a seven point lead over Barcelona with two games left.
Gonzalo Higuain netted a brilliant16th-minute opener after Cristiano Ronaldo had earlier missed from the penalty spot.
Ronaldo, who joined Madrid in 2009, for a world record of 80 million pounds beautifully created a second for Mesut Ozil in the 20th minute and also, found the back of the net himself, five minutes after the break with a simple header from Ozil’s corner. This is his 44th league goal of yet another fertile season.
Madrid’s coach, Jose Mourinho has now won the league title in four different countries, after triumphs in Portugal (Porto),England (Chelsea) and Italy (Inter Milan).
Real Madrid have only lost twice in the league this season, 0-1 at Levante and 1-3 at home to Barcelona, and have smashed the La Liga scoring record by amassing 115 goals with 30 conceded.
The club has performed exceptionally with Ronaldo racking up 44 La Liga goals, Higuain netting 22 and Karim Benzema 20, the first time three players from the same club have passed the 20 mark.
