Come Saturday ,the 6th October 2012 and Shillong Lajong Football Club will take on the might of Mohun Bagan when they face the Mariners at the J N Stadium in Shillong for their opening I-League encounter. The Reds thus open their campaign with a home game and will look to bank upon the advantage of having the home crowd behind them to put one past the Kolkatan outfit.
Known for the huge crowd turnouts, the city of Shillong has already been abuzz with anticipation for the first big match of the season, and on Saturday, it will all culminate at exactly 2:45 pm at the hallowed turf, when the referee blows his kick off whistle.
Adressing a press conference today,at Hotel Centre Point , Shillong Lajong Coach,Desmond Bulpin stated that it is important for the team to win the first game of the season and also said that the support of the home crowd will be an advantage ,while also stating that the team is under no pressure playing the first match of the season at home.Desmond also said a couple of injuries were niggling the team but hopefully, that will not affect the performance in the field.
Mohun Bagan are indeed seasoned campaigners, and with the likes of Odafa Onyeka Okolie,Tolgay Ozbey,Nirmal Chettri and former Lajong player Aibor Khongjee in the ranks, the Mariners are indeed a formidable side to reckon with ,but the Reds, known for their resilience and Never-Say-Die spirit, will be no pushovers and will be going all out tomorrow for a win ,and start their season on a positive note.
Indeed the hour of reckoning draws near for both teams, and everything will be at stake when the players take to the ground, for the much awaited encounter between the Reds and the Mariners.
