Tata Football Academy defeated Shillong Lajong FC 2-0 in the U-20 All India Football Tournament in Chittaranjan.
It was a tough day for the young Reds of Lajong as they were defeated by the recently crowned IFA Shield Champions, The Tata Football Academy.
The match kicked off under a very hot weather condition in Chittaranjan. Vishal Das scored an early goal to give TFA the lead in the 5th minute. Lajong Juniors fought hard to get back into the game but the TFA defence stood strong at the back.
In the second half of the match, Lajong were on the attacking mode and pressed forward on many occasions. The boys also had plenty of chances in the match but the TFA custodian made brilliant saves to deny the equaliser for the Reds.
The Boys from Jharkhand who are very well accustomed to the weather conditions of Chittaranjan were a very confident side today. The boys displayed good game of football and doubled their lead when Prakash Naik found the back of the net in the 81st minute of the match.
The young Reds fought hard till the final whistle but TFA held on till the end and won the match 2-0.
Lajong will play their second match of Group B against Salgaocar FC on 19th March.
