Wellington Phoenix FC defeated Shillong Lajong FC, 5-2, in the North East Lajong Super Series, at the Khuman Lampak Main Stadium, Imphal on Sunday.
Jeremy Brockie opened the account for Wellington Phoenix FC in the 16th minute after Louis Fenton, who again showed a powerful display, had combined with Paul Ifill to get him behind the strong Lajong defence.
Brockie who represented New Zealand in the 2010 World Cup, doubled the lead in the 42nd minute and completed his hat-trick in the 60th minute.
Newly signed striker of Shillong Lajong FC, Friday Gbeneme found the back of the net in the 74th minute and netted the second goal for the Reds in the 84th minute.
Jeremy Brockie who played for the Newcastle Jets last season, shook the net again for the fourth time in the 87th minute and Tom Biss made it 5-2, after Brockie nodded on a long throw during extra time.
Shillong Lajong FC will take on United Sikkim FC on the 30th of August at the JN Stadium Shillong at 3 PM.
The Australian A-League outfit, Wellington Phoenix FC will be playing an exhibition match with the Shillong Premier League Champions, Royal Wahingdoh FC on the 29th of August, Wednesday and will either play United Sikkim or Shillong Lajong FC in the final of the North East Lajong Super Series on the 1st of September at the JN Stadium Shillong at 3:15 PM.
